Impact of COVID-19 on Energy Consumption in Buildings

Daily electricity demand has decreased in the central region of the US in March and April according to EIA, mostly due to the closure of public buildings in response to COVID-19. But energy usage will start to increase in public buildings as businesses re-open because of the need for a higher rate of fresh air for ventilation and increased rate of air change per hour (ACH) across the space, and higher Minimum Efficiency Reporting Value (MERV) for filters. It is interesting to see how much is this impact and what building sectors are more affected.
